Departure from Vientiane, following the Mekong River for around 100 km before heading north into the hills. Along the way, we stop at a unique temple with no buildings, where statues are sheltered beneath natural rock formations. From here, we enjoy a magnificent view over the Mekong.
-
Muang Fuang is a small town nestled in a peaceful valley surrounded by spectacular karst mountains. We spend the night in a beautiful lodge overlooking the rice fields, with wonderful views of the surrounding limestone peaks.
-
After a delicious breakfast, we set off in the late morning. The first part of the road, as far as Route 13, is in very good condition. From there, the ride becomes more adventurous as we tackle the potholes of Route 13 on our way to Vang Vieng.
-
Vang Vieng is a lively small town set along the Nam Song River, facing majestic karst mountains. In the afternoon, we take a relaxing boat trip along the river before enjoying dinner by the water. Overnight in a hotel or bungalow with beautiful mountain views.
-
There is an option to take an early-morning hot-air balloon flight before breakfast. Afterwards, we ride through the spectacular mountain scenery, passing rice fields and traditional villages.
-
After lunch in Vang Vieng, we set off for Nam Ngum Lake, the largest reservoir in Laos. We spend the evening and night by the lake in very comfortable pavilions offering exceptional views over the water.
-
We take Route 13 towards the Nam Ngum 1 Dam, inaugurated in 1972 and the first major dam built in Laos. Lunch is served aboard a boat during a one-hour cruise on the lake.
-
For our final stage, we head back towards Vientiane along Route 10. One last touch of adventure awaits as we cross the river with our motorcycles aboard a small local ferry, before returning to our starting point in Vientiane at the end of the day.
